With a background that includes more than 25 years of experience in accounting, auditing, and consulting, Melissa specializes in qualified and welfare benefit plan services. She leads ACM’s Employee Benefit Plan Services Group, bringing clients the technical expertise and knowledge needed to address their unique situations and give them peace of mind.
Melissa has provided services to some of the largest pension plans in the Rocky Mountain region. She has also worked with governmental plans on GASB financial reporting requirements, 11K SEC filings, health and welfare plans and 403(b) plans on various compliance, filing, and reporting matters.
Developing good working relationships with clients is one of her top priorities. She takes the time to understand the nuances of each client’s circumstances, company demographics, and employer and employee needs. Then she helps them make improvements, address plan qualification issues (i.e., identification, correction, and resolution procedures with governmental agencies), prepare and review Form 5500 filings, and conduct due diligence and operational reviews.
She successfully consults with clients on plan-related matters, including compliance issues, plan design, and financial reporting issues.
Named one of the “Most Powerful Women in Accounting” by CPA Practice Advisor in 2015, 2016, and 2017, Melissa develops and presents national training programs for employee benefit plan auditors and consultants. She frequently speaks on qualified plan matters at national events, including the AICPA Employee Benefits Annual Conference, AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center webcasts, and the Western Pension Benefits Conference.
A passionate advocate for the advancement of women in the accounting profession, Melissa is the former chair of the AICPA Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee (WIEC) and has spoken at the AICPA’s Women’s Global Leadership Conference.
